If you’re a fan of Asian flavours, then you’ll enjoy Korean food. It has a wide range of cooking styles that are influenced by the geography and culture of Korea. Korean cuisine is known for being spicy, but not as much as Indian or Thai cuisine. You can still enjoy many dishes in Korea without feeling too much heat because they are usually served with lots of sauces or vegetables.
It’s also known for its rich flavours and great use of vegetables, seafood, meat and noodles. Below we will share with you how to make a Korean-style burger using various Korean ingredients. You might have never thought of this before, but trust us; it’s super tasty.
Korean BBQ Burger Seasoning
A Korean BBQ burger wouldn’t be the same without good seasoning. For the Korean BBQ burger seasoning, we used soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, ginger, red chilli pepper flakes, garlic, and gochujang (Korean red pepper paste). To make the Korean BBQ burger seasoning, combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Then, store the seasoning in an air-tight container so that it doesn’t lose its flavour.
You can use it to season the burgers before you cook them. Now, you may wonder why we used soy sauce for the Korean BBQ burger seasoning. It’s because Korean BBQ hamburgers often use soy sauce for the seasoning. But don’t worry, you can always leave it out and enjoy the burger without it.
Toppings for the Korean-Style Burger
Korean BBQ burgers aren’t just about the meat; you should also add some vegetables and other toppings to give it some flavour. For the vegetables, we used lettuce, onions, and carrots. You can also add any other vegetables you like; tomatoes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, etc.
For the condiments, we used ssamjang mayonnaise, kimchi, and gochujang (Korean red pepper paste). For the ssamjang mayonnaise, you need to simmer the soy sauce, gochujang, garlic, and water until it becomes a smooth sauce. You can use a blender or food processor to make it. You can also make it at home by simply combining all the ingredients.
Bulgogi Beef Patties
If you’re looking for a great filling for your Korean BBQ burgers, we suggest using Bulgogi. It’s a Korean dish made with soy sauce marinated beef that’s usually served with rice. You can easily make your Bulgogi at home. All you need to do is marinate some sliced beef in soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic, and then cook it until it’s tender. For Korean-style burgers, you can use ground beef instead of sliced beef. All you need to do is mix both ground beef and sliced beef, season it with Korean BBQ seasoning, and then cook it until it’s done.
Samgyeopsal Pork Shoulder Tenderloin
Pork shoulder is another great filling for your Korean BBQ burgers. You can use fresh or frozen pork shoulder for this recipe. For the Korean BBQ burgers, you can use fresh pork shoulder.
If you use frozen pork shoulder, then you’ll need to thaw it out before using it. What we like about pork shoulder is that it’s very flavorful and tender. This makes it perfect for burgers. To make the Korean-style pork shoulder burgers, you need to marinate the pork shoulder for a few hours in a soy sauce and sesame oil mixture. Then, you can cook it until it’s done.
When it’s cooked, you can mix the pork shoulder with kimchi to give it some extra flavour. For the Korean-Style Pork Shoulder Tenderloin Burgers, we mixed the pork shoulder with kimchi to give it a sour flavour and some extra texture.
Dduk Galbi Chicken Kabobs
Korean BBQ burgers are usually served with kimchi, but what if you want to serve something different? For the kombi kabobs, we used shredded cabbage, carrots, and daikon (Japanese radish). You can use whatever vegetables you like for kabobs. When it comes to the kimchi for the kabobs, don’t use the cabbage/cabbage kimchi that’s used for Korean BBQ burgers; use the spicy variety. This will add some extra flavour to the kabobs.
Sugar Cane Shrimp Stir Fry
Sugar cane is a great vegetable for flavouring foods. For the shrimp stir fry, we used sugar cane stalks. You can also use any vegetables you like. The key to making a good stir fry is to saute the vegetables first and then add the shrimp. You want to saute the vegetables until they are slightly crispy and gooey. This will help the shrimp to become even more flavorful.
When making the sugar cane shrimp stir fry, you need to first cut the sugar cane stalks into shorter pieces. Boiling the sugar cane stalks will make them softer, so you can easily cut them yourself. Then, you can cook the shrimp in soy sauce, garlic, and sugar cane stalk marinade. The sugar cane stalk will add a sweet flavour to the shrimp and they will also become more fragrant when they’re sauteed with the other vegetables.
