Greencore Group plc is registered in Ireland and headquartered in Dublin. It traces its origins to Irish Sugar, founded in 1926, and was formed in 1991 after Irish Sugar was privatised; it exited the sugar business in 2006. Its FY25 results describe it as a FTSE 250 company, and the documents reviewed do not name a controlling shareholder.
Greencore makes chilled, frozen and ambient convenience food in two groups, Food for Now (sandwiches, salads, sushi) and Food for Later (ready meals, pizza, breads, desserts), for UK supermarkets, foodservice and travel retail. Before the Bakkavor deal it reported revenue of £1,947.0m and adjusted operating profit of £125.7m for the 52 weeks to 26 September 2025, from 16 manufacturing sites and about 13,300 employees.
It completed the acquisition of Bakkavor Group plc on 16 January 2026, four days after selling its Bristol chilled soups and sauces site, a sale agreed after the CMA identified competition concerns in own-label chilled sauces. Its August 2026 fact sheet gives combined FY25 pro forma revenue of £4,133m, around 28,000 colleagues and 36 manufacturing sites in the UK and US. It is pursuing a sale of its US business. On 13 October 2026 it reported FY26 pro forma revenue of £3,378m, including Bakkavor from acquisition; full results are due on 1 December 2026.
