Olleco is the renewables arm of ABP Food Group. It was established in 2006, originally in response to changes in legislation on used cooking oil in animal feed, and began collecting food waste in 2012. The company says it employs over 1,000 people and services over 50,000 catering establishments from 19 sites across the UK and Ireland.
Services include used cooking oil collection, with an OilSense storage system and collections from food factories, food waste collection including bulk food waste, and the supply of cooking oils. Collected material goes to three anaerobic digestion plants, including Aylesbury and Liverpool, a biodiesel plant and three used cooking oil bio-refineries, producing renewable energy, biodiesel and bio-fertiliser. Customers range from multinational restaurant chains to local pubs and fish and chip shops. A support office is at Blisworth, Northampton.
