Barilla Group says its journey began in Parma in 1877 as a small bread and pasta shop, and that it remains family-owned and not listed on any stock exchange. It makes pasta, ready sauces, bakery products and crispbread, and says it is present in more than 100 countries. Guido Barilla has been Chairman of the Barilla Group since 2003. A company press release of October 2022 described the business as chaired by the brothers Guido, Luca and Paolo Barilla, with about 8,700 employees and brands including Barilla, Mulino Bianco, Pan di Stelle, Wasa, Harrys and Pasta Evangelists.

In the same release Barilla announced that Gianluca Di Tondo, then Chief Marketing Officer, would become Group CEO, with Claudio Colzani stepping down as CEO as of April 2023.
